Save the date and join The award winning Buccaneers of Tortuga as we march in the Annual Swallows Day Parade. Then stay for the after party in town that lasts into the eveningWe are entered in the Historical Walking Unit Category (in which we won FIRST PLACE last year) so please do your best to wear appropriate garb. Anything from the Golden Age of Piracy up until Regency. Just try to make it look good for the public (as best you can). But most of all, Lets have fun. If you want to bring other people, just let us know so we can keep a running count. This page is set up so you can also officially invite other pirates on your own. Feel free to be creative and bring props as long as you can carry them during the parade.

It's important that you get there before 10:00am for check in, and preferably much earlier for parking. It's a problem. The Parade starts at 11:00. They close some of the streets early (around 8:00 am). They do have a shuttle service from a parking lot on the other side of the freeway. All participants will need to sign in with our group. Look for the pirates gathered outside at the tables on the school grounds, and look for Jennifer Sterling or crew to sign you in. The earlier the better. Get there early, get a good parking spot and maybe have breakfast before the parade. There is always a pancake breakfast near the sign in area. Here are some other specifics that you'll need to know:
SWALLOWS’ PARADE PARTICIPANTS
WALKING UNITS (Marching, ROTC and Hand Drawn Floats) Please make sure that all participants in your group have a copy of these instructions
Sign-in - Located at the corner of El Camino Real and Spring Street in front of San Juan Elementary School.
Assembly / Staging - At the entrance (driveway) to the Calvary Chapel on El Camino Real. This is just north of San Juan Elementary School.
Awards - Presented at Historic Town Center Park approximately 30 minutes following the end of the parade. Located on El Camino Real, south of Ortega Highway. You must be present to receive an award.
Parking - Unfortunately, there is no available parking anywhere on El Camino Real. There is adequate parking within walking distance. A shuttle service is also available. (Map attached).
Drop off participants – • From Ortega Hwy turn right ⇒ onto Camino Capistrano. • Go North (toward Mission) on Camino Capistrano and turn right ⇒ onto
Acjachema Street. • Drop off the participants(s) at the corner of Acjachema and El Camino Real. • Proceed on Acjachema St. and turn left ⇐ onto La Calera • Make a right turn ⇒ onto El Horno under freeway to Junipero Serra Road (Map
attached).
Acjachema Street is Closed Effective 10:00 AM ! ! ! ! Because of the traffic constraints we will strictly adhere to the street closures
1. Late arrivals will not be allowed to participate.
2. Rules # 2 and # 17: At no time is any unit allowed to hand out or throw anything along the parade route. Violation will result in IMMEDIATE REMOVAL from parade and disqualification.
3. Rule#18:Paradeparticipants are prohibited from the use or inclusion of motorized vehicles or motorized devices (generators / golf carts / scooters, etc.) excluding medically approved electric wheelchairs.
Due to the traffic constraints and the number of people in town, I urge you make every effort to arrive early.
