BRUTAL ECHO
Film Premiere & Tango Social
An extraordinary collision of dance, music and brutalist architecture.
Set against the monumental concrete architecture of Margate's Arlington Car Park, Brutal Echo is a dance-for-camera film in which two dancers explore how moments of collision can become moments of connection. Directed by Anna Symes, with choreography and performance by Leon Williams and Anna Symes, and cinematography by Daniel Gemsa, the film brings together movement, architecture and an original musical score.
The soundtrack was developed in 2024 through creative workshops with young people from Cliftonville Primary School, St John's Holy Trinity School and Arts Education Exchange. Working with composer Tom Adams, with creative contributions from Leon Williams, they brought together rap, spoken word, song and body percussion to create a vibrant musical score.
As rhythm spreads from dancer to dancer, opposing forces give way to shared movement. Featuring dancers from the Tango Margate community, Brutal Echo celebrates the power of music and dance to bring us together across our differences.
Join Round in Circles Productions for a special premiere, presented as part of Margate Film Festival, and an evening of film, music and dancing.
Following the premiere, the space comes alive with Argentine Tango music and social dancing. Whether you dance or simply want to watch, listen and enjoy a drink, come and share in the celebration.
