Brush Up & Connect - A Collaborative Mixed Media Workshop
Have you ever hit that sweet spot where time disappears and everything just flows? That's flow — deep immersion, pure creative energy — and this class is designed to help you find it regularly.
We start each day painting together on one big canvas. It's playful, low-pressure, and a great way to loosen up. At the end of the day, we cut the canvas into equal pieces so everyone goes home with a slice of something made together.
From there, the day opens up. Guided verbal and written prompts take you on deeper dives into your instincts, your experiences, the veins of joy running through your own story. Free movement painting sessions keep things loose and alive. No overthinking. Just you, some paint, good company, and the creative self you've been meaning to reconnect with in this 3-Day Mixed Media Art Workshop.
Skill Level: Beginner through intermediate. No color mixing or drawing experience required — though those skills are a bonus for more advanced students.
Materials: Group painting supplies are provided. For your individual painting, please bring: acrylic paint, hard pastels, a 6B graphite pencil, an eraser, and vine charcoal. You'll work on your choice of hot-press watercolor paper, Rives BFK printmaking paper, stretched canvas, or board.
Each Day Includes:
Morning Movement Meditation — We ease in with a few minutes of chair yoga and a 10 minute guided drawing meditation to get you present and ready to create.
Community Painting — Standing around a shared table, everyone begins painting together following the teacher's prompts. Every few minutes, you rotate to a new spot and respond to the marks your classmates have left behind. Gradually, a vibrant painting of abstract and figurative forms takes shape — made by all of you.
Break + Canvas Divide — After a conversation break, the group painting gets divided up so everyone takes home a piece of the collaboration.
Individual Painting — Each day closes with your own canvas and a fresh source of inspiration — a new idea every day to spark your personal work.
