Brown Wimpenny are an 11-piece folk ensemble of young singers of old songs, and new dancers of old jigs.
Based in south Manchester, Brown Wimpenny’s self-described mission is to “share the music of the people and to build a community around it.” With four sell-out headline shows under their belts, they have played with fellow ‘trad-curiosities’ Goblin Band, Seb Stone, and made appearances at Factory International and the Broadside Hacks Folk Club in London. Described by The Quietus as a source of “energy, eccentricity, communion and joy.”
The full Brown Wimpenny band will be singing, unaccompanied under the Portico dome in a unique and exciting one-off performance; Lifting their voices to resonate under the natural amplification of the cupola, the 11-piece reinvigorates the dormant sparks of folkloric fireside ballads.
