Bring your lunch and learn! This month, Dr. Hannah Lahti will be presenting "Remember Us: Holocaust Memory in the United States."As the Holocaust persisted in Europe, Americans reacted to the humanitarian crisis in real time and memorialized its victims. In the decades that followed, memorial efforts in the United States evolved and expanded to create new archives, museums, and media to preserve Holocaust memory. This lecture will highlight the various ways the Holocaust was memorialized in the United States from World War II to the present day, and how those efforts have changed over time.
Dr. Hannah Lahti is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She is a Holocaust public historian specializing in the interpretation of Jewish life and loss in museum and memorial contexts. She earned a PhD in Public History and History from Loyola University Chicago, where her dissertation examined curatorial approaches to Jewish heritage in Polish and American museums. Her research engages questions of representation, memory, and narrative authority.
These free programs are a partnership of the University of Nebraska at Kearney's History Department and the Kearney Public Library.
