Come out for a morning of birding to spot some migratory birds along their journeys on the Atlantic Flyway! We will be birding every other Sunday morning of September and October at different locations throughout the county. Please bring sanitizer to wash hands. Also, if you have any insect allergies or health concerns, please notify me, and bring your EpiPen. We will have a first aid kit with us.We will walk leisurely along the 1 mile trail at Plantation Preserve Linear Trail. The address is 7050 W Broward Blvd, Plantation, FL 33317.
South Florida becomes an exciting place to bird starting in late July when shorebirds and songbirds from the Arctic Tundra, Great Plains and New England beaches make their migration south for their winter grounds. Be on the lookout for Prothonotary, Worm-eating and Cerulean Warblers and Yellow-billed Cuckoos. Plantation Preserve is a renowned spot for birding. Keep your eyes peeled for great egrets, limpkins, great blue herons, warblers, cardinals, jays, thrashers, mockingbirds and more. Expect to be out from 8am to 10am.
What to bring:
At least 16 oz. of water and/or Gatorade.
Wear light weight sun protected clothing and a hat.
Comfortable walking shoes
Sunscreen and mosquito spray
Sunglasses, camera, binoculars, bird book or Merlin/ iNaturalist smartphone apps.
Where to meet:
We will meet at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course parking lot at 8:00 AM. There are bathrooms in the clubhouse. Parking can be an issue, so try to carpool!
