These exceptional and popular workshops are designed to enhance your understanding of prehistoric craftsmanship. Not only will you create a take home object but you will also explore the amazing archaeology behind the craft, where and how the raw materials were formed and how to continue your journey after the workshop.
Bronze Axe Casting
Workshop Info:
The day will begin with a 1 hour introductory talk to metalworking in the Bronze Age, covering materials, UK artefacts and manufacturing techniques.
Participants will be taken through the process of mould making before choosing an axe to make their mould from. Each participant will have the chance to cast liquid bronze into their mould. There will be time to clean, polish and decorate the templates in the afternoon.
Guidance will be on-hand at all times. Appropriate clothing must be worn for manual work (fully covered shoes and trousers etc).
Workshop attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch and drinks.
Attendees must be over 16.

Food and drinks can be purchased in the café in the Visitor Centre, or you can bring your own packed lunch. Please note if you are purchasing food from our café, a pre-order form will be available on the morning of the course (a selection of paninis, sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc. are available) so we can have your food freshly prepared for you.
