Join us for a special evening celebrating the launch of Reimagining Anti-Racist Social Work: Rooted in Care, Resilience and Solidarity.
About this Event

We are delighted to be hosted by the University of East London’s School of Childhood and Social Care and EDI Lead for an evening celebrating the launch of Reimagining Anti-Racist Social Work: Rooted in Care, Resilience and Solidarity, a special issue of the British Journal of Social Work (BJSW). It brings together practitioners, educators, students, activists and community members interested in anti-racist social work. While the issue is rooted in and honours the experiences and contributions of Black women, its significance extends to everyone committed to creating a more just, equitable and anti-racist world.

The programme will include contributions from the special issue’s guest editors, Shantel Thomas, Dr Roma Thomas and Dr Sylvia Smith, alongside speakers including Professor Carlene Firmin, BJSW Co-Editor. Contributors will share reflections and readings from their work, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion with the audience.
Whether attending in person or online, we welcome you to join the conversation and explore how the ideas in this special issue can inform social work and anti-racist practice.

We will also celebrate four years of the Anti-Racist Movement who are at the heart of this special issue: four years of building community, creating space for Black women to heal, grow and lead, and working collectively towards a more just and anti-racist world. This is a moment to celebrate the greatness of what has been achieved through collective action, and to honour the ongoing legacy ARM is building.

Registration: Please register for your preferred attendance format. If you are registering to attend online, please use your institutional email address where possible to help with registration and access arrangements. Further joining information will be provided to registered participants.
