🧱 The Line up 🧱

Jenifer Dyne - David Kohn Architects

Jennifer is an Associate at David Kohn Architects and leads the Houses & Interiors team within the practice. The practice is internationally recognised for its playfully elegant designs across a range of scales - from houses and galleries to major civic projects.
Jennifer oversaw the Red House, a new future-proof home in rural Dorset that was awarded the Individual Housing Development named RIBA House of the Year in 2022.
The Red House is a new brick house in rural Dorset, which is a playful take on the rural vernacular farmhouse, full of references, beautiful details, and consideration for the owners, present and future. Many of the house signifiers are exaggerated and the bold green eaves, doors and windows give it a unique identity. Playful extended eaves, bay windows and graphically laid out brickwork are signifiers of the internal plan and provide an eccentric appearance.

Jennifer is currently on the jury for NLA’s Don’t Move Improve awards, and recently chaired the RIBA South Regional Awards jury. As a 2023 winner of the Individual House Award Jenifer will also be Joining the 2024 Brick Awards Judging Panel.

Paul Ruding, Strategic Specification Director at ACS Stainless Steel Fixings

With a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of building, design and construction, Paul plays a crucial role in assisting architects during the early stages of specification to ensure the correct systems are chosen.

Paul will share his expertise on tackling the ever-growing challenges across the sector, and will introduce new strategies for solving cavity congestion, a significant issue in modern architecture. He will explore solutions with the innovative Intex™ 4-in-1 Masonry Support System, which combines four critical components in 1 easy-to-fit design; masonry support, cavity tray, wall ties and fire protection.

Phil Catcheside, Campbell Metcalfe – Hawkins Brown and Rodney Harris – Artist

Peabody, Burridge Gardens comprises the first phase in the reinvention of the 1930s Peabody St. John’s Hill housing estate, in the Battersea area of southwest London. Designed by the Los Angeles– and London-based firm Hawkins\Brown, the initial three structures provide 154 mixed-income units, and the master plan will eventually see 599 units, plus retail and commercial space.

The architects referenced Edwardian neighbors with similar shades of brick and contrasting window surrounds. Three-story maisonettes at the base of the courtyard block, which face the historic structures, receive a more finely grained, rusticated articulation that implies a shared design vocabulary. Ground-level units have front and rear gardens as well, tying them to the typology of the older townhouses. The architectural language is starker and more modern along the new pedestrian avenue and in the interior courtyards. Communal entrances are easily identifiable via brightly glazed bricks.

The designers collaborated with a sculptor Rodney Harris to create distinctive masonry reliefs on the façades that recall the site’s history. Fences, railings, and gratings provide a level of ornament not generally associated with social housing. Peabody, Burridge Gardens will continue to grow and evolve as the rest of the master plan gets built out, but its early design success provides a compelling template for a rejuvenated community.
