Sydney South West GP Link Ltd., the voice of GPs in South Western Sydney is the local general practice advocacy body.

Keynote: AMA "sugar tax" policy and campaign
Host: A/Prof Michael Bonning, Chair Public Health AMA
Info: Dr Michael Bonning is the immediate past President of AMA (NSW) and a general practitioner in Sydneyβs Inner West. He is an Associate Professor at Macquarie a University and works with two PHNs on their goals for healthier communities.
He began his clinical training as a GP at Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation and also worked in Lurnea and Liverpool while he was a uniformed medical officer with the Royal Australian Navy. Across all of these roles he saw the challenges of our obesogenic society and also the need for a whole of system approach to preventing the growing wave of lifestyle related health conditions.
Dr Bonning has extensive experience in health policy advisory roles to Government, non- profit and corporations. He is the current Chair of Public Health for the AMA and has recently worked on a large scale proposal for making metabolic health care and prevention more accessible and supported in the community.

Info: Soniaβs 30-year journey in healthcare began as an intensive care nurse at Griffith Base Hospital where her dedication to patient care and innovation set the foundation for an extraordinary career.
She was appointed Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Wagga Wagga Hospital, before taking on a number of nursing and health leadership roles in rural, regional and urban areas. She joined South Western Sydney Local Health District in 2016, and initially held the role of Executive Director Nursing, Midwifery and Performance.
Now, as Chief Executive, Sonia leads with a clear vision for the future of healthcare for the District. Accountable to the SWSLHD Board, she leads the Executive Leadership Team in delivering safe, equitable, and high-quality healthcare to our diverse communities. Her commitment to governance and strategic leadership drives the District's mission, ensuring that every person from Bankstown to Bowral receives the care they deserve.
