Join us for an interactive discussion about the impact of domestic violence in our community, how you can support a survivor, and what we can all do to create a safe community.

Expert Panelists:
Tracey Dollison Decker worked as an attorney with the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office for nearly 20 years. For the majority of that time, she zealously worked to bring justice to victims and safety to the community through her prosecutions of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and homicide cases. She served briefly as the Director of Victim’s Assistance in Pennington County where she directly served victims of crime, advocating for them and supporting them through the criminal justice process. She currently serves on the West River Human Trafficking Taskforce and works as an attorney consultant and advisor for the South Dakota Network Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault.
Sergeant Shawn Fox has served in law enforcement since 2005, building more than two decades of experience. He has served as a municipal police officer, a deputy sheriff, and as a task force officer with the Northern Plains Safe Trails FBI drug task force through the U.S. Department of Justice. He currently serves as a sergeant with the Spearfish Police Department, supervising the Investigations Office and at times the Patrol Division. Sergeant Fox plays an active role in his department’s training program instructing firearms, impact munitions, oleoresin capsicum, active shooter response, and high threat vehicle engagement training. He has received four life-saving awards, two letters of meritorious service, and a letter of commendation. His career reflects extensive experience in investigations, patrol operations, training, and leadership.
Rebecka Funk, LPC-MH is a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health who has been serving individuals and families in the Black Hills region since 1999. She has worked in community health centers providing both home-based and in-office counseling, and in private practice through Funk Counseling. She currently serves as the Director of Student Health and Counseling at Black Hills State University.
Jeanie Berns is an advocate for Artemis House in Spearfish. She provides case management, advocacy and support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Previously, she worked as a family resource worker and behavioral specialist with Lutheran Social Services and as a paraprofessional. She advocates diligently for her clients to ensure their success.
Dani Jo Butler is a spiritual healer and the founder of Shirley Speaks, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and empowering survivors of domestic violence. Born from her own lived experience and the devastating loss of her mother to domestic violence, Shirley Speaks is Dani Jo’s way of turning pain into purpose and helping others find their voice, healing, and hope.
Moderator, Kelly Turman, serves at the Prevention Education Specialist at Victims of Violence Intervention Program. Drawing on her background in nonprofit advocacy, coaching, community service, and leadership development, Kelly delivers clear, engaging education on healthy relationships, early intervention, and violence prevention. She is passionate about serving rural communities and creating conversations that make prevention feel relevant and easy to understand.
