The crisis communications training leaders wish they had received sooner. Effective. Engaging. Relevant.
About this Event

No matter how well your communications plan is written, it will only be as effective as the training and preparation the leaders on your team have received.

This engaging, fast-paced two-day course prepares public safety supervisors and PIOs for messaging when crisis strikes, whether it comes in the form of a critical incident outside the organization or controversy directed at it. This timely training prepares you to contribute to the public messaging when communication matters most.

Topics include:

  • Messaging in real time through social media (with case study)
  • The art of the effective news release
  • Managing misinformation online and in the media
  • Navigating the complex world of media relations
  • Winning the news conference from prep to post-conference
  • Practical exercises that put the training into practice
  • Mock news conference scenarios

Effective public communication has never been more complex or more important. Obtain time-tested tools to communicate through the inevitable critical incidents by two sought-after communications instructors.

Instructor Chris Covelli is a Chicago-area deputy chief and public information officer who served as lead PIO throughout the aftermath of the 2022 Highland Park, Illinois parade mass shooting. He is also a communications instructor at the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

Instructor Leslie Rhode is an award winning television journalist with a career spanning more than 20 years in Washington, D.C., Texas and Arkansas. Throughout her career as a TV news anchor and reporter, she interviewed hundreds of people, to include President George W. Bush. Leslie has worked with leaders in health care, education and government agencies.

Training certificates will be sent upon completion.

COURSE CANCELLATION POLICY

While it happens rarely, Julie Parker Communications might need to cancel a scheduled program. We strive to make this decision a minimum of fourteen days before the training date(s) and promptly inform all registered participants. In cases of course cancellations by JPC, the full registration fee will be reimbursed. However, it's important to note that JPC cannot be held accountable for any financial losses resulting from cancellations or alterations in travel arrangements.
