We are going to talk about tips and tricks for making small talk with strangers less painful and more . Develop and practice an elevator pitch to introduce yourself ad FAME. Learn more about active listening to engage in conversation. And finally talk about some strategies for starting an engaging conversation.Schedule:

Presenter, Whitney Duchaine:
Whitney Duchaine is a Career Liaison working in the USM Career & Employment Hub. She joined USM in 2021, coming from the University of New England where she worked as a Health Professions Career Advisor and created the university's pre-health advising program. Whitney has a Bachelor's in Secondary Education and a Master's in Counselor Ed from the University of Maine. She is also a Certified Career Counselor through the National Career Development Association. Throughout her career, Whitney has taught at various levels to a variety of students. She has worked in the public school setting as a school counselor and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. She has taught graduate students in the USM Counselor Education Program and undergraduates in the USM Honors Program. She has been a part of several new initiatives within the USM Career & Employment Hub, including the creation of an Employer Advisory Board, Networking Dinner, and reviving employer recruiting on-campus post-pandemic.
