About this Event
The Emancipation Proclamation was passed in 1863 and slavery was actually abolished in 1864. However, no southern states set their slaves free and the slave population of the South continued to grow, peaking at almost 4 million people at the beginning of civil war. The 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution took effect in December 1865 and finally ended slavery throughout the United States. Finally in the early 1900s African American slaves were set free. The physical chains were broken but they still had to deal with segregation, crime, and a whole new life of their own. The Brown family in this 2-Act Stage Play, who symbolizes many African American Families, will carry the scars of slavery into freedom? While the physical chains are broken, will the iron collars of their emotions, hurt and pain, still linger?
Other activities will include reenactments, monologues, poetry, singing and a Taste of Africa Cruisine. Get a good taste of different African dishes.
Come on out and let's celebrate our culture together!!
