Jack Rabbit and the Beast is a mystery thriller blended with magical realism that's set in Tucson, Arizona. The story follows private investigator Jeronimo "Vel" Velasquez, a character who is always stuck in the liminal--between his mixed race and mixed faith. He struggles through the grief of losing his girlfriend until the use of his mother's witchery convinces him that it was more than just a beast that took her life.

Jackrabbit's Ofrenda is the sequel to Beast, and continues Vel's story as he's plunged into the case of his friend being framed for M**der. The real challenge is once again coming to terms with his lack of invincibility as he learns that there are some saints who slip through the cracks, only to be seen again on the few ofrendas of those that remember them.

Bre Garcia has only ever visited the deserts of her heritage, yet they're inescapable enough that the southern arid lands of North America have become the subject of the books she writes. She lives with her cat and can best be approached in the wild with suggestions of monsters, gross horror movies, or balls of yarn to knit with.
