The town of Schönram, then "Schönrein", later "Scharram" and "Scharramb", was first mentioned in documents in the mid-12th century. In 1512, a tavern was first recorded in Schönram, although it likely existed much earlier. The tavern right (comparable to an early restaurant license), which was granted by the sovereign at that time, included certain privileges not available to ordinary inns. These included, among other things, the right to brew beer, distill schnapps, or bake bread, although not all taverns had these rights. In 1622, a brewery was first mentioned, although here too, beer was probably brewed in Schönram much earlier. We will be featuring this wonderful brewery.
