Please join us to celebrate the launch of Barson's "Brassroots Democracy: Maroon Ecologies and the Jazz Commons," a timely reminder and reflection on the ability of collective music and brass bands to build solidarity in the Reconstruction-era South. Barson's book weaves together the diasporic music of the Haitian Revolution, Black feminist blues, community gardening, and labor organizing on the docks. As Marcus Rediker wrote: "There is no other book like it."
After the event, walk with us over the the Downstairs where we will play some music from the book at De Wayne Perry's Jazz Jam!
