The Brandon Development Foundation and IMEG are holding an Informational Meeting for the Brandon Wetland Bank project on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 4-6PM at the Brandon Golf Course. Please note that the topics discussed at this meeting related to the Wetland Bank project and not the associated multi-purpose trail. Discussions regarding the trail remain ongoing, and further information will be provided at a later time.
What is a Wetland Bank? A wetland bank is a permanently protected natural area where wetlands are created, restored, enhanced, and/or maintained in perpetuity to offset environmental impacts from development or construction elsewhere. This process, known as mitigation banking, helps ensure a net positive effect on local ecosystems, especially as our community grows.
Primary Topics of Conversation:
Project purpose and overall goals of the Wetland Bank.
Improvements to the existing site conditions.
Ecological benefits, including habitat improvement, water quality enhancements, and flood mitigation.
Service area for mitigation credits.
Long-term management, monitoring, and maintenance plans.
Updated project timeline.
Why It Matters to You as a Neighbor:
Environmental Benefits - Wetland banks improve water quality, reduce flooding, and provide habitat for wildlife.
Permanent Conservation - Wetland banks are preserved in perpetuity through conservation easements. This means no future development or major changes to the land next to you.
Professional Stewardship - The site will be carefully managed and maintained by qualified environmental professionals overseen by the Brandon Development Foundation and IMEG during the establishment period. There will be no cost or responsibility for you.
Community Connection - This project provides space for further community education, enjoyment, and a stronger connection to our natural surroundings.
Your feedback and perspective as a neighboring landowner is important to us, and we hope you will attend. If you have any questions prior to the open house or are unable to attend, but would like more information, please reach out to either Tim Jorgenson, President of the Brandon Development Foundation at (605) 366-4161 or Karrie Johnson, Senior Environmental Specialist with IMEG at (605) 331-2505. We hope to see you there!
