On 9 August Roland Garros Stadium will host a medal session for women's boxing under 50kg and 66kg and men's boxing under 92kg https://tickets-paris24.com/paris/events/205682.
On this day the final boxing fights in three categories will be held and the awarding ceremonies will be held for women in the two categories up to 66 kg and up to 50 kg as well as for men in the heavyweight category up to 92 kg. This year 248 boxers from around the world are scheduled to take part including 124 men and the same number of women. Those who have already booked their tickets for the ticketed session will definitely not be disappointed with the events in the ring.
Boxing as a discipline was added to the Olympic Games in 1904 then this competition was only among men and so continued until 2012 then women in three weight categories were included in the programme. At the first competition in 1904 only athletes from the United States took part. At the next Games there were already 4 participating countries. The maximum number of participating countries in the boxing competition was recorded in 1988 - 106 countries. Usually there are more male boxers in the competition than female. For the first time in the Olympic Games in Paris -2024 there will be an equal number of participants of both sexes.
Traditionally the favourite countries in boxing at the Olympics are the USA with 50 gold medals and Cuba with 41 gold medals.
While we are waiting for the results of the 2024 Olympic Games there is time to look back at the results of the previous 2020 Olympics and who will be the favourites at these Games. Cuban Julio César La Cruz won gold in the men's up to 91kg. Russia's Muslim Gadzhimagomedov took silver. Two athletes won bronze: one from New Zealand David Nyika and Brazilian Abner Teixeira. Among women up to 51 kg Bulgarian Stoyka Krysteva celebrated victory second place was taken by Turkish Busenaz Çakıroğlu bronze went to Huang Hsiao Wen (Taiwan) and Tsukimi Namiki (Japan). In the under-60kg category Ireland's Kelly Harrington took gold and in the under-69kg category Busenaz Syurmeneli (Turkey) won gold.
