Bowl II: From Log to Bowl is an in-depth woodturning class designed to guide participants through every step of transforming raw wood into a beautifully finished bowl. The instructor will cover the entire process, starting with selecting and preparing a log, demonstrating how to properly cut and mount it on the lathe. Students will learn essential turning techniques, tool selection, and safety precautions to shape the bowl efficiently and effectively. Throughout the session, the instructor will provide hands-on guidance, helping participants refine their skills in hollowing, smoothing, and detailing their pieces.
As the class progresses, students will explore different finishing techniques to enhance the natural beauty of the wood, including sanding, sealing, and applying finishes for a professional-quality result. The instructor will also discuss wood drying methods and strategies to prevent cracking or warping over time. By the end of the class, participants will have a solid understanding of the entire bowl-making process, leaving with both a handcrafted bowl and the confidence to continue their woodturning journey independently.
Know Before You Go
Wear closed-toe, comfortable shoes.
Long hair needs to be tied back.
Do not wear anything too flowy like sleeves or hems that could get caught in the machine.
Cancellation Policy
Due to the underlying expenses and prep time involved with our classes, Mann Tool does not provide refunds or exchanges for cancellations that occur within 10 days of the scheduled event. Participants who give more than 10 days notice will receive a full refund.
Each class has a minimum number of participants required for the class to be held. Mann Tool reserves the right to cancel a class up to 48 hours prior to its scheduled time if the minimum enrollment has not been met. In this case, the participants have the choice of a full refund or a credit towards the enrollment costs for a future class.
