About this Event
Many parents feel overwhelmed when it comes to setting and holding boundaries with their child. Whether it’s saying no, managing pushback, or dealing with big emotional reactions, it can be hard to know what to do for the best.
It’s common to question yourself: Am I being too soft? Too harsh? Why does this turn into a struggle every time?
This 5-week workshop helps you understand what sits underneath these moments and offers practical, therapeutically informed ways to set clear, calm boundaries while staying connected to your child.
You’ll join a supportive space to reflect, learn, and share experiences with other parents and carers.
Arrive from 9:00 | Sessions 9:15–10:15
Each session is supportive, practical, and focused on helping you understand your child’s behaviour and respond with confidence.
Important: This workshop offers early-stage guidance for parents. It is not therapy or crisis support.
9:00–9:15 – Arrive, make drinks, settle in
9:15–9:30 – Welcome and what we’ll focus on today
9:30–10:05 – Simple, practical ideas about children’s emotions, behaviour, and regulation
10:05–10:15 – Exploring real-life experiences and questions together
10:15–10:30 – Practical take-home ideas to try during the week
At the end of the 5 weeks, parents will receive a free personalised report summarising what has been covered across the sessions.
This includes practical guidance tailored to your child and your family, giving you a clear, supportive reference to use at home.
Weekly Focus
Week 1: Am I Too Soft or Too Harsh?
If your child’s behaviour feels intense or confusing, this session helps make sense of what might be underneath it. We explore behaviour as communication and how boundaries support children to feel safe.
We’ll cover:
- What behaviour might be communicating
- What sits underneath anger and outbursts
- Why boundaries matter (and what they really are)
- Moving away from “too soft vs too strict”
Week 2: But They Just Push Back
When children resist or escalate, it can quickly turn into a power struggle. This session explores what’s driving that response and how to reduce escalation.
We’ll cover:
- Why children push back against limits
- What sits underneath power struggles
- How emotions escalate (and how to interrupt the cycle)
- Responding in ways that reduce conflict
Week 3: I’ve Said No… Now What?
Holding boundaries can feel difficult in the moment. This session introduces simple ways to stay consistent while helping your child feel heard and offering safe choices.
We’ll cover:
- How to acknowledge feelings while holding a limit
- What to do after you’ve said “no”
- Offering realistic choices to support cooperation
- Reducing repeated battles at home
Week 4: I End Up Shouting
Parenting through big emotions can be exhausting. This session focuses on understanding your own responses and finding ways to stay calmer in difficult moments.
We’ll cover:
- Recognising your own stress and triggers
- Why staying connected is more important than staying calm
- Simple ways to pause and respond differently
- Repairing things when it’s been a tough moment
Week 5: Making It Work in Real Life
In the final session, we bring everything together and focus on making these approaches realistic and sustainable at home.
We’ll cover:
- Responding to hitting, shouting, and meltdowns
- Supporting your child through big feelings
- Balancing boundaries with connection
- Creating a simple, manageable plan moving forward
