CHANGE OF VENUE for the String Band Contest & Family Concert on Sat. Sept. 21, daytimeDue to circumstances beyond our control, the String Band Contest and the Family Concert with Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are MOVED to the BERKELEY CENTRAL LIBRARY, on the 4th floor. We will have the use of the entire 4th floor which means plenty of room for jamming and warming up and visiting during the contest.
The Berkeley Central Library is just a few blocks away from Civic Center Park (our usual venue) and the Berkeley Farmers Market.

The library opens its doors at 10:00 am. You'll want to arrive around then, to sign in for the contest and/or get a good seat for Cathy & Marcy's concert.
Up on the 4th floor:
10:15 Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer — family concert — these two Grammy-winning musicians play many instruments, including banjo, ukulele, guitar, and both are great singers.
11:00 Manning Music Fiddlers will play a few tunes, followed by:
The String Band CONTEST!!
There are still plenty of slots open, so please consider signing up your band. Don’t have a band? Gather together a few of your music friends and work up two songs, and you’ll be good to go!!
This contest is a low-stress deal, and the definition of “old time” is extremely broad — basically if it’s acoustic, it fits. Singing is welcomed! In past years, we’ve had bluegrass, singer-songwriters, jug band, Klezmer, Irish, Mexican, Italian, swing, pan-ethnic satire, etc. Plus of course many fiddle-banjo-guitar old-time groups.
Admission is free, and there’s no charge to enter. Pre-registration is highly recommended! To sign up, please send the following info:
1. Name of band (you can change this later)
2. Number of members and instrumentation (including vocals) - your best guess will be fine
3. Contact person for band
4. Contact person’s cell phone, including area code
