Join Joshua Glant and José Manuel Álvarez Guerrero for a captivating journey through the rugged beauty and ecological richness of Washington’s central eastern Cascades. With a multidisciplinary lens—blending ecology, horticulture, and conservation—they’ll guide us through the diverse habitats of this region, spotlighting its remarkable endemic plant species and their equally noteworthy companions.
Special attention will be given to the Wenatchee Mountains, a hotspot of botanical uniqueness where granitic outcrops, alpine meadows, and dry montane forests host flora found nowhere else. From elusive cushion plants clinging to scree slopes to drought-adapted perennials thriving in exposed ridgelines, this presentation will reveal how geology, climate, and isolation have shaped one of the Pacific Northwest’s most unique plant communities.
