About this Event
Come discover the world of plant pigments! In this workshop you learn how to make your own watercolor ink with the surrounding flora. We will learn how to identify some important plant modifiers and then make 2-3 inks from plant material foraged right here in Los Angeles. Participants will have the chance to get their hands dirty with a variety of ink making and then apply the ink to paper to make their own painting.
Ms. Larsen is an artist and educator who began this journey when her students were unable to name a single plant growing around them. They started foraging together to create art supplies, and through many successes and failures, Ms. Larsen's botanical inks were born. Having grown up on a farm and spent countless hours roaming the woods, she intends for her work to inspire a sense of mystery and curiosity about the plants found in both urban and rural areas. Through Ms. Larsen's Botanical Inks and Drinks, she aims to foster a greater appreciation for local flora and promote sustainable practices. By transforming excess produce into beautifully crafted inks and wines, Ms. Larsen helps individuals connect with the environment in a meaningful way, contributing to a more engaged and environmentally conscious community.
