BOTANICAL ALCHEMY: Natural dyes & Eco-printing with Rose L. Williams

Join internationally exhibited textile artist Rose L. Williams for an immersive workshop in Natural Dye and Botanical Contact Printing, where art, sustainability, and nature converge. The session will include a presentation on sustainable and ethical foraging, including best practices for collecting, preserving, and extracting color from leaves, flowers, and plant materials. Participants will learn about natural dye processes, fabric preparation, scouring, and mordanting techniques—essential steps for ensuring vibrant, lasting prints on repurposed textiles.

Rose will also lead a live demonstration of botanical contact printing, showcasing the transformative power of natural pigments as they imprint onto fabric. Participants will then have the opportunity to create their own eco-printed textile piece, experimenting with plant placement, bundling techniques, and steaming methods to develop unique, organic designs.

At the end of the workshop, participants will take home:

• Their own botanical eco-printed textile
• A dye blanket (a secondary print created in the process)
• A deeper understanding of how to engage with nature through sustainable, regenerativeartistic practicesThis workshop is open to all skill levels—whether you're an artist, textile enthusiast, or simply curious about the magic of natural dyeing. Come explore the delicate intersection of art and environment, and leave with a piece of the landscape imprinted onto fabric and memory alike.All materials will be provided!Participants are welcome to bring a small sample of botanical material that carries meaning for themselves to incorporate into their design (suitability will be assessed upon inspection)
