About this Event

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We begin the season with Brahms's beloved Violin Concerto. The work couples, in a way virtually unique to Brahms, extreme rigor with passionate expansiveness—qualities that Guy Braunstein, former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, demonstrated unforgettably in his performance of the Elgar Violin Concerto with us last season. Bartók's joyous and thrilling Concerto for Orchestra is a showcase for every section in the orchestra—a final, exultant affirmation of life by a dying composer whose spirit, even at the end, remained undimmed.

- Soloist and former Concert Master of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Guy Braunstein returns to Boston to play Brahms Violin Concerto with the Boston Philharmonic. The Boston Globe praised his Boston debut performance last year:"Braunstein’s distinguished background as a former Berlin Philharmonic concertmaster shone through as he enchantingly wove in and out of the orchestral fabric. Delineating Elgar’s dizzying parade of gorgeous melodies one moment, he drew back into the symphonic texture the next, pooling his sound into the Philharmonic’s as it confidently tackled the intricate score."
- Watch Guy Braunstein perform with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in Berlin from the Tour to Europe 2024.
- Listen to Guy Braunstein perform Elgar - Violin Concerto, Op. 61 - 2. Andante
