BossaFest Concert: Villa-Lobos Complete Works for Guitar
Advertisement
A very special evening presenting the complete works for solo guitar by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Latin American music, performed by guitarists Tino Andersen and Johnny Kristiansen.
The program includes Chôro No. 1 (1920), the Suíte popular brasileira (1928), which reworks urban and folk idioms into a stylized classical suite, the 12 Études (1929), written for Andrés Segovia and regarded as foundational to the modern guitar repertoire, and the 5 Preludes (1940), a set of contrasting character pieces.
Johnny Kristiansen, from Narvik, has performed widely across Europe and Scandinavia. He combines his work as a performer, teacher, and department head with an active freelance career. Tino Andersen, from Tertnes, leads his own festival and performs in Norway and abroad while teaching at Bergen Kulturskole and Langhaugen. He is widely known as a teacher who has influenced a generation of Norwegian guitarists.
