Join us for the opening gathering of the Humane Letters Society of the Magic Valley.
Before we begin our first major literary work, Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, we will spend time building what I am calling The Framework of Recovered Vision: a way of approaching the liberal arts not as mere information to consume, but as works that may awaken desire, train attention, and help us see more truthfully.
Our first series is titled:
Bored to Death
Modern life trains us to flee boredom immediately. The moment there is silence, restlessness, or emptiness, we reach for noise and distraction.
In this opening gathering, we will begin considering the path:
Boredom → Leisure → Longing → Contemplation → Transcendence
This will lay the groundwork for how we read, discuss, and receive great texts together.
All ages are welcome. Feel free to invite others who may be interested in great books, Christian wisdom, imagination, beauty, and conversation.
