Bordeaux wine gets a bit ignored these days in Oz, while the South West has never had much attention at all.

While Bordeaux can be quite boring, producing everything from basic watery wine to fancy oak bombs for poor-taste billionaires, it can also be delicious. Cabernet and Merlot are famous for a reason. There are plenty of small producers trying to create something interesting.

The South West, the wine regions around Toulouse and neighbouring Bordeaux, are comparatively tiny. Rarely seen apart from the odd Cahors Malbec or Madiran Tannat. However, they can be quite interesting, featuring a host of rarely seen local varieties.
