'“Bootleggers, Brothels & Backroom Deals: Toledo After Dark”"'
Step into Toledo’s hidden past with a guided walking tour through the city’s bootlegging, mob, brewery, gambling, and vice history. Explore the rise of the Tenderloin District, the Entertainment District, and the geography that made Toledo one of the Midwest’s most strategic and contested cities. From Detroit to Chicago, Cleveland to New York — everyone wanted influence here, yet Toledo became the one place where outside conflict stayed out. You didn’t bring beef into this city.
The evening begins at The Blarney Event Center and includes 8 total stops throughout Downtown Toledo, with the final stop at The Switchboard before returning back to the event center. Guests can refill their DORA cups at The Oliver House and The Switchboard along the way while hearing stories from The Blarney Event Center’s official Toledo Historian.
Learn about Toledo’s rich brewery roots, rumored mob ties, gambling halls, brothels, and the underground culture that helped shape the city along the mouth of the muddy Maumee. While Toledo never officially had its own Italian crime family — at least to our knowledge — the city played a major role in organized crime history throughout the last century.
