Join Union Hotel and the Giller Prize for the fifth session of #BookTalk, an intimate new literary series celebrating Canadian literature in a fresh, community-focused way.

Continuing the series is Ann-Marie MacDonald, a Giller Award-winning author, in conversation with David Leonard. Set in the cozy, storytelling-rich lobby of the Union Hotel, this live interview invites book lovers into a relaxed evening of meaningful dialogue, exploring Ann-Marie's latest work and the power of CanLit today.

Whether you're a lifelong reader or new to the scene, #BookTalk offers a modern take on the classic book club — it's live, local, and literary. Tickets are limited for this exclusive & intimate event!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR, ANN-MARIE MACDONALD:

ANN-MARIE MACDONALD is an award-winning novelist, playwright, actor, and broadcast host. Her writing for the stage includes the plays Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), Belle Moral: A Natural History, and Hamlet-911, along with the libretto for the chamber opera Nigredo Hotel, and book and lyrics for the musical Anything That Moves. She is the author of the bestselling novels Fall on Your Knees, The Way the Crow Flies, and Adult Onset. Ann-Marie is a graduate of the Acting Program of The National Theatre School of Canada. In 2019 she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of her contribution to the arts and her LGBTQ2SI+ activism. She is married to theatre director Alisa Palmer, with whom she has two children.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR, DAVID LEONARD:

DAVID LEONARD is the executive director of Writers' Trust of Canada, Canada's largest non-governmental supporter of Canadian writers. David spent nearly a decade as a book publicist, working with thousands of writers, from emerging voices to global superstars. David also worked with many of Canada's most interesting writers and thinkers as the founding producer of The Walrus Talks and many other events for the Walrus Foundation, and he led 6 Degrees, a global program for inclusion operated with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship. He has written for The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Quill & Quire, and others. David grew up in Nova Scotia where he worked for nine years in a second-hand bookstore, and he currently lives among towering stacks of books in Toronto.
