Join us for a joyful and inspiring afternoon of reading, creativity, and connection at our Books & Brunch with Kids—a two-hour literary experience designed just for young readers and their grown-ups. This special edition of Books & Brunch is extra exciting because we’ll be brunching with children’s author Emily Santos!

As always, families can expect engaging storytime, interactive discussion, and a relaxed brunch atmosphere that makes reading fun and accessible. This month, kids will also get the chance to learn directly from Emily as she shares her books, her journey, and encourages children to dream big and see the world as full of possibilities.

Esmeralda Makes Friends with the Butterflies is a heartwarming story about a little girl named Esmeralda who struggles with social anxiety. As Esmeralda faces the fluttering butterflies in her stomach before meeting new people, she learns that these butterflies aren’t something to fear—they’re her friends! With the support of her family, Esmeralda discovers how to make peace with her anxious feelings, gaining confidence and courage along the way.
Perfect for children aged 5 to 6, this book gently introduces the concept of understanding emotions, offering parents a helpful way to discuss social anxiety with their kids. Through simple language and a relatable story, Esmeralda Makes Friends with the Butterflies helps children recognize and embrace their feelings, teaching them that it’s okay to be a little nervous sometimes. It's a story of self-acceptance and bravery, encouraging both kids and parents to welcome the butterflies.

Adults are welcome—and encouraged—to brunch alongside their little readers and share in the experience.

Emily Alexis Santos is a debut children's book author with a passion for mental health and storytelling. In her first book, Esmeralda Makes Friends with the Butterflies, she guides young readers through understanding emotions and managing social anxiety, offering valuable tools for both children and parents to nurture early emotional literacy. Inspired by her personal experiences and creative background, Emily creates heartfelt stories that encourage children to embrace their feelings while helping parents foster open, supportive conversations.
