Join us for a visit with author Christy A. Smith.
Located just seconds from the winding Tennessee border, the remote mountain settlement of Lost Cove, North Carolina, was once described as where the "moonshiner frolics unmolested." Today, Lost Cove is a ghost town accessible mainly to hikers hoping to catch a glimpse of the desolate settlement. Christy will provide an in-depth presentation on Lost Cove from its founding before the Civil War to the town's ultimate decline. The presentation includes families, old newspaper articles, documents, deeds, and pictures that capture the best of Lost Cove and its history.
Christy A. Smith grew up in Erwin, Tennessee. She graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2007 with a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Appalachian Studies. Her non-fiction book, “Lost Cove, North Carolina: A Portrait of a Vanished Appalachian Community,” was published in November 2021 by McFarland & Company.
