About the book:

A dance to the death. A girl who’s just as monstrous as H.H. Holmes. A hallway that’s constantly changing―and hungry. All of these stories exist in the same place―within the frame of a particular house that isn’t bound by the laws of time and space.

Following in the footsteps of dark/horror-filled YA anthologies like His Hideous Heart and Slasher Girls and Monster Boys, and Netflix’s ground-breaking adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House, this YA speculative fiction anthology explores how the permanence of a home can become a space of transition and change for both the inhabitants and the creatures who haunt them.

Each story in the anthology will focus on a different room in the house and feature unique takes on monsters from a wide array of cultural traditions. Whether it’s a demonic Trickster, a water-loving Rusalka, or a horrifying, baby-imitating Tiyanak, there’s bound to be something sinister lurking in the shadows.

About the authors:

Alex Brown is a queer, biracial Filipino American writer who loves rooting for the Final Girl--especially if she's a monster. Alex is a Locus Award finalist whose YA Horror Comedy debut, DAMNED IF YOU DO, was also a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Alex co-edited the YA Horror anthology NIGHT OF THE LIVING QUEERS. THE HOUSE WHERE DEATH LIVES is her first solo-editing adventure. This collection also received the JLG Gold Standard distinction.

C.L. MCCOLLUM (she/they) is a card-carrying disaster bi of a SFF author. Her story “In Deep” will appear in Page Street YA’s THE HOUSE WHERE DEATH LIVES out 8/06/24, and her adult debut 13 COUNTY ROAD
666 is out 7/11/24 from Falstaff Books. She has contributed to multiple small press anthologies, as well as Jolene Haley’s annual “Spooky Showcase” event, and she also co-edits a charity anthology series known as “Clichés for a Cause.” Currently, she is keeping it weird in the Texas Hill Country with her
family and their various furry roommates. You can find her at https://linktr.ee/clmccollum.

Once upon a time, Linsey Miller studied biology in Arkansas. These days, she holds an MFA in Fiction from Wichita State University and can be found writing about science and magic anywhere there is coffee. She is the author of the Mask of Shadows duology; Belle Révolte; The Game, What We Devour; Prince of Song & Sea; Prince of Thorns & Nightmares; Prince of Glass & Midnight; and the upcoming young adult fantasy, That Devil, Ambition.

About the moderator:

Melody Simpson (she/her) is the Founder of Melanin in YA, a database for all things Black in traditional young adult publishing. She is the co-editor of the nonfiction anthology, WRITING IN COLOR: 14 WRITERS ON THE LESSONS WE’VE LEARNED. Her short story, "The Guardrail Disappears" can be seen in the feminist horror anthology, BETTY BITES BACK: STORIES TO SCARE THE PATRIARCHY, edited by Mindy McGinnis, Demetria Lunetta, and Kate Karyus Quinn. Melody is from New Jersey and currently splits her time between Austin, TX and Los Angeles, California.

By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business – you’re showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople.

Thank you for supporting Alex Brown, C.L. McCollum, Linsey Miller, Melody Simpson, and your local independent bookstore!
