A reading with Çetin Gültekin and Mutlu Koçak
About this Event

On 19 February 2020, nine people were murdered in Hanau for racist reasons. The attacker could not tolerate the victims "in his country". One of them was Gökhan Gültekin – born, raised and murdered in Germany.
Together with Mutlu Koçak, his brother Çetin Gültekin tells the moving story of Gökhan and reports on an outrageous crime in the heart of Germany and its consequences. To this day, the relatives are still fighting for justice.
This reading is a harrowing testimony to the deep-rooted racism in Germany – mercilessly honest and stirring. It is also an appeal: we are not "the others", we are part of this society.
This reading is part of a book/reading tour at the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow (Goethe-Institut) and St Andrews in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, DAAD Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde (Scilt), University of St Andrews, DAAD St Andrews, University of Aberdeen, DAAD Aberdeen and DAAD Centre Stage Deutsch.
Çetin Gültekin was born in Hanau in 1974 and still lives there today. Since the assassination, he has been fighting against racism in Germany and for justice – for his brother as well as for the other bereaved families.

Mutlu Koçak, a close friend of Çetin's, is a media consultant and supports Çetin in coming to terms with Gökhan's life.
The event will mainly be held in German with translations.
