Book Talk with Swedish Author Elin Anna Labba
About this Event
The Embassy of Sweden is pleased to welcome acclaimed Swedish Sámi author Elin Anna Labba for a conversation moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Rule (Chickasaw Nation), distinguished Indigenous scholar.
The discussion will center on Labba's internationally acclaimed book, (Far inte till havet), which explores the forced displacement of Sámi communities in northern Scandinavia following twentieth-century hydroelectric development. Through archival research, oral histories, and literary storytelling, the work examines themes of memory, identity, resilience, and Indigenous relationships to land.
Together, Labba and Dr. Rule will explore Indigenous storytelling, cultural heritage, and the role of literature in preserving histories, strengthening cultural continuity, and advancing dialogue across communities and borders.
After the program books will be available for purchase via Bridge Street Books.
