About this Event

Hosted by Georgetown University's Gender+ Justice Initiative and the Gender & the Law Journal.

Join us for a compelling book talk on by Jill Elaine Hasday, recently published by Oxford University Press. In this groundbreaking work, Hasday examines how America's dominant legal and political narratives have long overlooked or distorted women’s struggles for equality. She explores how prominent figures have exaggerated the nation's progress, while sexism continues to shape constitutional law and everyday life. Hasday argues that remembering and accurately telling women’s stories is key to advancing true gender equality. This event will offer a thought-provoking conversation on the ongoing fight for women’s rights and the crucial role of conflict in creating forward momentum. Don't miss this chance to engage with the vital conversations that are shaping the future of gender justice.

About the speaker:

Jill Elaine Hasday is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor and the Centennial Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School. She teaches and writes about anti-discrimination law, constitutional law, family law, and legal history. She is the author of three books: Family Law Reimagined (Harvard University Press 2014), Intimate Lies and the Law (Oxford University Press 2019), and We the Men: How Forgetting Women’s Struggles for Equality Perpetuates Inequality (Oxford University Press 2025). Intimate Lies and the Law won the Scribes Book Award for “the best work of legal scholarship published during the previous year” and the Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award for Family and Relationships.

Free and open to all.
