About this Event

The Snail on the Wall is delighted to welcome Donna Everhart to discuss her new novel, Women of a Promiscuous Nature. Described as Girl, Interrupted meets The Handmaid’s Tale, Women of a Promiscuous Nature takes place in 1940s North Carolina, as a young woman is accused of “promiscuity” and unjustly incarcerated at The State Industrial Farm Colony for Women.

The event will be at The Snail on the Wall bookstore, 816 Wellman Avenue, on Wednesday, January 28, at 6 pm.

Tickets are $18.95 and include a copy of Women of a Promiscuous Nature. Attendees can pick up their copies before the event for a chance to read it in advance.

About Women of a Promiscuous Nature:
On a February morning, 24-year-old Ruth Foster is forcibly taken by the local sheriff for compulsory medical testing and ends the day imprisoned at the State Industrial Farm Colony for Women, despite having done nothing wrong. She joins dozens of women confined for vague, cruel reasons. Some are there because they were reported for promiscuity by neighbors, husbands, strangers. Some were accused of prostitution. Others were just pretty and unmarried. Superintendent Dorothy Baker, convinced that she’s transforming degenerate souls into upstanding members of society, oversees the women’s medical treatment and “training” until they’re deemed ready for parole. Sooner or later, everyone at the Colony learns to abide by Mrs. Baker’s rule book or face the consequences—solitary confinement, grueling work assignments, and worse. But some refuse to be cowed. Some find ways to fight back – at any cost… "

About Donna Everhart:
Donna Everhart is the USA Today bestselling author of authentic, vivid Southern fiction. Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, she now lives with her husband in the small town of Dunn, North Carolina where she is currently working on her next novel. She’s a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network, Historical Novel Society, and is the spokesperson for the MaryJanesFarm Book Club.
