You can attend in person or via Zoom. This class will be reading and discussing Strange New World by Carl R. Trueman. “How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman shows how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of “expressive individualism.” Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas on religion, free speech, and personal identity. For fans of Trueman’s The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self,
Strange New World offers a more concise presentation and application of some of the most critical topics of our day.”
This study and discussion will be held both in person and via Zoom. If you would like a copy of the book the cost is $14.00 through the church, or you can buy your own copy through any bookseller. If you buy the book through the church, please make the checks out to Peace Lutheran Church and on the memo line of the check write the word “BOOKSTUDY”. You may direct specific questions to Pastor Norm at [email protected]. Please feel free to read the book in advance of the class but we will be reading most of the book together in class. Don't worry if you cannot make the class each week. Come when you are able. If you are going to participate via Zoom, you must email Pr. Norm directly at the email included above in order to get a link for Zoom.
