The Sherman Museum will be hosting a book signing and discussion with Deborah Cornelius for her book Rivers and Destinies. The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday in the museum’s community room.Deborah is a Dallas-born (and Sherman raised) storyteller who resides with her husband along the picturesque Red River, where the 22-mile Gilbert Creek meanders. Her academic journey began at the University of Oklahoma where she completed her undergraduate studies and then she obtained a Master’s degree from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Cornelius discovered uncanny coincidences in her life regarding two special pioneer families. Not ten miles from her birth home, these pioneers were among the founders of Dallas, Texas. The same families were the first Wichita County pioneers where she currently lives. This discovery prompted fascination and research about these two families and westward expansion. She took that passion on a deep dive into the legacy of two unique pioneer families, uncovering a remarkable tale of friendship, love, grit, and bravery in the writing of this novel. Deborah’s rigorous research and passion for history culminated in an inspiring narrative she felt compelled to share.
