A Time to Dance: Amy L. Bovaird reflects on Valentine’s Day. Divorced and caring for her widowed mother, she focuses most of her energy on spending time with family, preparing meals, and trying to eke out a living as a writer. But one February 14, God surprises Amy with two hand-drawn Valentines and discovers once again her heart matters to the One who hears every cry, especially those that surround her baby angels on the other side of the world.

Mobility Matters: Adventurous international teacher, Amy Bovaird, is diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a hereditary eye disease that will blind her. In spite of that, she manages to continue teaching overseas. Then her father’s final illness brings her back home for good. Unwilling to accept that she is truly losing her eyesight, Amy resists when the Bureau of Blindness schedules a mobility specialist to begin training her to use a white cane. Will her faith prove strong enough to allow her to move forward and accept herself as she is?

Amy Bovaird grew up in northwest PA and has taught English to children and adults around the globe as well as to international military personnel. At age 28, she was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa and declared legally blind. She is an active member of several community groups, which include Pennwriters, West PA Authors, Toastmasters, the West County Lions Club, and the National Federation for the Blind.

Though she no longer teaches in the classroom, she still educates by speaking to groups about the challenges of sight loss with anecdotes of faith and humor. She blogs about her experiences in hopes of bridging gaps between the sighted and the blind.
