We invite you to a book presentation and talk with the author Sergei Girin “From 3+5 to Z. The Language of a War”
"From 3+5 to Z. The Language of a War" is a new philologist's notebook, as Victor Klemperer named his research on the language of the Third Reich. Unlike Klemperer who spent the entire war in Germany, Sergei Girin has not been to Russia since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Yet, modern technologies, talks to relatives, advice by his colleagues and friends, including those who continue to live in Russia, let Girin take a look from the side at the transformation of his native language and more prominently see a catastrophe that we as a society are going through.

The language of the event is Russian.
The reading at Austausch is the second presentation in Berlin, primarily meant for civil society actors and experts on Russia and Eastern Europe but also for those who missed the first presentation in October 2025. There will be an opportunity to purchase the book printed by the FRESH Verlag in Germany (€ 15).
Sergei Girin is a linguist, author, PR & GR expert. He worked as a translator and foreign language teacher, later as a Commercial Director at an energy company and finally, as a Communications and Advocacy Lead in international civil society organisations. His articles were published by German and Russian media. Girin attended residency programmes at the International Writers' and Translators' House in Ventspils (2018) and at the Writers' House of Central Finland in Jyväskylä (2022), where several chapters of "The Language of a War" were composed. Currently, he lives and works in Berlin.

«От 3+5 до Z. Язык одной войны» – новая «записная книжка филолога», как назвал свое исследование о языке Третьего рейха Виктор Клемперер. В отличие от Клемперера, проведшего всю войну в Германии, Сергей Гирин не был в России, когда началось полномасштабное вторжение на территорию Украины. Однако современные технологии, разговоры с родственниками, советы коллег и друзей, в том числе тех, кто по-прежнему живет в России, позволили Гирину посмотреть со стороны на трансформацию родного языка и более выпукло увидеть «катастрофу, которая нас как общество настигла».
Читка в Austausch - вторая презентация книги в Берлине, адресованная в первую очередь организациям гражданского общества и экспертам по России и Восточной Европе, но также всем тем, кто пропустил первую презентацию в октябре 2025 года. Книгу, вышедшую в издательстве FRESH Verlag (Германия), можно будет приобрести (€ 15).
Сергей Гирин – филолог, публицист, PR- и GR-специалист. Работал переводчиком и преподавателем иностранных языков, коммерческим директором в энергетической компании, директором по коммуникациям и адвокации в общественных организациях. Печатался в российской и немецкой прессе. Участвовал в программах резиденций Международного дома писателей и переводчиков в Вентспилсе (2018) и Дома писателей Центральной Финляндии в Ювяскюле (2022), где были написаны некоторые из глав «Языка одной войны». В настоящее время живет и работает в Берлине.

"Von 3+5 bis Z. Die Sprache eines Krieges" ist ein neues Notizbuch eines Philologen, wie Victor Klemperer seine Untersuchung über die Sprache des Dritten Reichs genannt hat. Im Unterschied zu Klemperer, der den ganzen Krieg in Deutschland verbracht hat, ist Sergei Girin seit Beginn des großangelegten Angriffs auf die Ukraine nicht in Russland gewesen. Neue Technologien, Gespräche mit Verwandten, Ratschläge von Kolleg:innen und Freund:innen ermöglichten ihm allerdings, einen Blick von der Seite auf die Transformation seiner Muttersprache zu werfen und im Detail die Katastrophe zu sehen, die uns als Gesellschaft erwischt hat.
Die Lesung im Austausch ist die zweite Buchvorstellung in Berlin, die sich in erster Linie an zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure sowie Russlands- und Osteuropaexpert:innen richtet, aber auch an alle, die die erste Präsentation im Oktober 2025 verpasst haben. Das im FRESH Verlag erschienene Buch wird zum Kauf (€ 15) angeboten.

Sergei Girin ist Sprachwissenschaftler, Autor, PR- und GR-Experte. Er arbeitete als Übersetzer und Fremdsprachenlehrer, dann als Verkaufsleiter bei einem Energieunternehmen und schließlich als Leiter der Kommunikations- und Advocacyabteilung im internationalen NGO-Bereich. Seine Artikel veröffentlichten deutsche und russische Medien. Girin war Gast bei Residency-Programnmen im Internationalen Schriftsteller:innen- und Übersetzer:innenhaus in Ventspils (2018) und im Schriftsteller:innenhaus Zentralfinnlands in Jyväskylä (2022), wo einzelne Kapitel von "Die Sprache eines Krieges" verfasst wurden. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
