Join us for the official launch of Unlocking Queer Futures: An Anthology. Collaboratively created by members of Queer Creators of Calgary and funded by community members, the pieces contained within this collection construct a looking glass into queer future by means of present-day reflection and experience. Through mixed prose mediums and poetry, Unlocking Queer Futures is a joyfully realistic community project that will have you grounded in one moment and then flying among the clouds in the next.

The evening’s mini panel will begin at 7:00pm, hosted and moderated by local poet, Skylar Kay, who will chat with CJ Braxton, Brenna Bailey-Davies and Kait Hatch, who managed and proofed the entire project. There will be a brief intermission followed by readings from select contributors to the anthology. Queer Creators of Calgary (QCC), formerly known as Queer Writers of Calgary, is a small trans-normative community collective committed to supporting local 2SLGBTQIA+ creators. By blending all types of creative endeavours (including but not limited to visual art, literary arts, performing arts, textile arts, musical arts, etc.), QCC provides a space to work, collaborate, and learn with other members of the local queer creative community. CJ Braxton (they/them) is cluelessly drifting through this world as a sensitive baby. Their introspective nature has them flying in a world of their own, where social constructs don’t matter. They like to explore humanness and nature through their photography and writing, particularly in their zine series, Master Musings, and they’re always looking for more creative endeavours to add to their list. CJ is the founder of Queer Creators of Calgary and one of the proofreaders of the anthology.
Brenna Bailey (she/her) is a queer Canadian who lives and breathes books; she currently has five novels published and runs an editing business called Bookmarten Editorial. If her nose isn't buried in a book, you can probably find her out in the woods somewhere, admiring plants or attempting to identify birds. Brenna is the human who turned this into an e-book, and was one of our lovely proofreaders.
K.S.C. Hatch (any pronoun, used respectfully) is a superqueer, anti-racist, Métis, disabled multi-genre writer, mixed-media artist, designer, community organizer, Buddhist chaplain, and prolific reader of books. To keep things simple, she tends to just call xyrself a polymath because it’s heckin’ easier than the run-on sentence that opened this paragraph. Kait Hatch did the layout, design and project management of the anthology.
