About the series:
- Hybrid is a series about a group of people who are part-human, part-animal. They're not born this way, the transformation happens later in their lives. Most places either disallow or outright hunt hybrids, leaving them to form close knit networks of support away from prying eyes.
- The Hybrid books were inspired by and written to be a metaphor for being part of the queer community. They try to initially convey a feeling of isolation that gets slowly broken apart by finding out more people accept you than you once thought, no matter how bad the world may seem.
- Change is a consistent theme throughout the series. Change of status, position, and views. What was once seen as a villain or a hero can easily change as perspective shifts.
- The Hybrid books are meant to be read in any order. Your journey will change depending on which one you choose to start with.
About Hybrid: Henry
- The story follows Henry; a child of nobility in line to inherit his family's land and mining rights. In the beginning, he has the same view of hybrids his family has. They're a threat, and must be killed if spotted. He learns his father uses them for cheap labour in his mine, and thinks that even that is too kind to the creatures. Around the half-way point, he becomes one himself, throwing his whole world view into whack.
- Henry has a close relationship with his family, making it all the more difficult when he's exiled from them. Though he tries to maintain a relationship with them, the story focuses heavily on the theme of found family.
- There's a vast cast of characters from the nobility, their servants, the mining staff, and of course, the hybrids. Each one brings their own perspective into both day to day issues, as well as larger dilemas, such as what their thoughts are on hybrids. Each one provides valuable insight to Henry's journey.
About the Author
Gregory Munroe is a fantasy author who grew up in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. After having read Troy Denning's "Dark Sun World" and R.A. Salvatore's "Legend of Drizzt" as a kid, they were inspired to start writing fantasy themselves, sparking a life-long obsession.
After taking further inspiration from video games and other forms of media, Gregory's first book, Marauder's Charm, came to life in 2019. Since then, they've released three more YA fantasy novels with the hope that they could spark the same love of the genre in someone else.
