Elizabeth has spent a life in literature. Her father was a classical scholar, and her mother a linguist and lover of fairy tales, so she was soon introduced to the classical myths. She read English Language and Literature, at Oxford giving her a thorough knowledge of Old, Early, Middle and Renaissance English. When reading Jane Eyre to her own children, she realised the significance of myth to the story and set out on a quest to uncover Charlotte Bronte's own reading. That research work, undertaken largely at The British Library, has led to this significant new reading of the book. Elizabeth has worked in publishing (Penguin Books) and journalism (Design Magazine), and has run her own small publishing company. She has contributed to The Literary Review, Adam and other books and magazines. She is a widow with two grown-up children and two grandchildren.
