About this Event

Book Launch: Beowulf Sheehan presents The Father of the Man: The Last Author Portrait Sitting with Cormac McCarthy

Wine reception to follow

Acclaimed photographer Beowulf Sheehan (Author: The Portraits of Beowulf Sheehan) returns to Greenlight for the launch of his new book, The Father of the Man! On a hot August day, Sheehan arrived at the Santa Fe Institute to meet and photograph Cormac McCarthy, auteur of the Southern Gothic and a figure renowned for avoiding the public eye; the day resulted in what would become the author's portrait for his later novels and, less than one year after they are published, the image used to announce the global news of his passing. Sheehan's book is a recounting of that day, a photo essay (including many pictures published for the first time), an homage to McCarthy and his art, and a reflection of the author's work to serve as a lens through which Sheehan better sees, understands, and loves his own father. Sheehan presents exclusive visuals from the book, before a reading and discussion, followed by an audience Q&A and signing.
