After nearly two decades on the Weaver County Commission, Terrence Benedict Monroe Ill is hell-bent on preserving the status quo. Can he control the narrative when a mysterious illness emerges in Milltown? He's going to try.
His blustery rhetoric sparks an unlikely sisterhood. Newcomer Avery Lee joins forces with Nina Gold and Dr. Deepa Kaur at a local parents' meeting. Their circle expands to include Lucille Preston, Monroe’s aide; Birdie Jefferson, a sage septuagenarian from the neglected Squirrel Park neighborhood; and Babs Marshall, the county's public information officer. Together, these women navigate scandals, a medical mystery, and local politics in a quest for change.
About the authors:
Rose Patrice is a mental health practitioner dedicated to supporting survivors of trauma and intimate partner violence through community engagement, education, and individualized, trauma-informed care. Jenn Kacmar is an obstetrician-gynecologist who has spent much of her career serving underserved communities within public health systems, where she has focused on equity, access, and sustainable care.
Both women live in Gaston County, North Carolina, where a friendship spanning more than fifteen years has grown through shared work, deep conversation, and a mutual belief in the power of connection. As a writing team, Rose and Jenn explore the complexities of human relationships, resilience, and the essential role of community in healing and growth. Snowflakes in the South is their debut novel.
Their collaborative writing process — rooted in reflection, curiosity, and honest dialogue — ultimately inspired the creation of Edit & Evolve, a coaching and consulting business where Rose and Jenn bring the same values of presence, discernment, and sustainable change to women, leaders, and organizations navigating transition.
