Our book choice for October is "Boater: A Life on England's Waterways" by Jo Bell. This is a newly published (June 2025) book and as a physical book is currently only available in hardback. This does mean it is more costly than our usual book choices, but hopefully it will be worth the price (note that it is available on Kindle at lower cost).The book is described as a smart and funny memoir in which Jo describes an alternative nation within a nation, a place of different maps and deep history, and home to people who live and work in a world quite separate from the land a few feet away on the banks. Hopefully it will give us an interesting insight into canal life.
Incidentally, it does have a local connection because Jo starts her adventure from her mooring in Macclesfield.
