On Tuesday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the library of the Alliance Française, join us to talk about the book "Le Bal Des Folles" written by Victoria Mas in 2019. This novel denounces a past male-dominated society, which may still have echoes in the present. Described as "An anthem to freedom for all women whom the 19th century attempted to silence, it resonates with themes of liberation and empowerment."Winner of the Renaudot Prize 2019 and the First Feathers Prize 2019, this novel immerses us in the Paris of 1885. It tells the story of the encounter between Eugénie, a woman who sees the invisible, and Geneviève, a very Cartesian woman, in an asylum named La Salpêtrière. This novel will deeply move you and prompt questions about justice and the limits of the human condition.
Please note that it is necessary to have read the book before the event.
Members can borrow the book from our library or purchase it from our partner Owl's nest.
The minimum level required is B2, but this event is also open to Francophones.
