Book Club! How to Do Nothing, Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
A critique on capitalism and the commercialization of our time, as well as a call to the importance of third spaces (like public parks and libraries).
While the title may seem misleading, Jenny Odell encourages us to increase our intentionality to attention through slowing down and reconnecting with the natural world around us (bioregionalism). While this book can feel dense, it is rich with philosophical and artistic references to support bringing to our attention the vital importance of both time and space to reflect and contemplate.
Together, in community, we will explore how Odell’s writing speaks to us and continue the conversation on how we work toward what we want to create in this world.
90 minute sessions will include 20 minute somatic grounding practice, around 45 minutes of discussion and a 10 minute closing practice.
Session 1: Introduction - Chapter 2
Session 2: Chapters 3 & 4
Session 3: Chapters 5, 6 & conclusion
Hosted by Lila Floyd: artist & lover of philosophy
Sliding Scale: $30-75
